If you know, you know, if you don’t, you will!

One of the most exciting things about starting vaping is the huge range of e-liquid flavours you can choose from.  If you have considered vaping and quit smoking or even if this isn’t on your agenda and you’re already a vaper, it’s good to know the difference between e-liquids, nic salts and how they can affect your vaping experience.

Before you lose yourself in the world of e-liquids in Rugby, it’s definitely a good idea to make sure you know which is the right type of e-liquid for your device and for your needs more importantly. If you’re still figuring out what’s what, we’ve cleared a few things up regarding e-liquids and nic salts in this article.

Starting with the basics – What are 50:50 e-liquids?

In e-liquids, there are two main ingredients; PG (propylene glycol) & VG (vegetable glycerine). They both have their own responsibilities when it comes to how e-liquids function. PG is the element that holds the flavour and gives you that ‘throat hit’ feeling whereas VG is the part that carries the vapour and balances out the throat hit. Aside from that, there are other ingredients like flavour and freebase nicotines. 50:50 simply means the ratio of each main ingredient; 50% PG and 50% e-liquids, resulting in the most balanced e-liquid. The freebase nicotines come in different strengths, typically to cater what you’re looking for; for example, 3mg, 6mg, 12mg and 18mg. The higher the mg level, the slower it takes for the freebase nicotine e-liquids to be absorbed, however they do stay in your system slightly longer so it’s worth bearing that in mind. What is a nic salt?

Similar to 50:50 e-liquids, nic salts are also typically made up of half PG and half VG. The main difference is that nic salts have higher mg levels of MG, typically around the 18-20 mark. However, due to their nature, they have more of a neutral pH level in comparison to freebase nicotine bases which means they absorb quicker. Not sure what to choose? We’ve got you covered.

What e-liquids should you use

As mentioned earlier, the real difference between 50:50 e-liquids and nic salts is the nicotine type. It really comes down to what you prefer. If you’re an ex-smoker or looking to quit smoking and turn to vaping, using nic salts will be especially effective. This is because they have higher nicotine levels but don’t provide as much of a harsher throat hit compared to freebase nicotine. Nic salts have been neutralised so you can still get high strength nicotine hits but with the throat hit being less prominent.

A Smokey Tip

If you want a high strength and high throat hit, go for 50:50 e-liquids. If you want high strengths of nicotine but less of a throat hit, nic salts are more for you.

Me, myself and my … device?

Whenever you’re using 50:50 e-liquids or nic salts, you’ll want to pair them with the right pod kit, vape pen or device. These typically will be one that uses a ohm coil that is 1.0ohm or higher. This is because the lower the resistance levels are, the more powerful and stronger your puff is. If you used these e-liquids in a sub ohm device which are less than 1.0ohm, you’re going to get a very scratchy throat hit and ridiculously strong tastes of nicotine.

In regards to your mouth to lung kits, you’ll have various coils to choose from. Due to nic salts absorbing quickly into your system, if you’re using a 20mg nic salt, we’d recommend higher resistance coils; between 1.2ohm and 1.8ohm will work great. This will also give you a smoother hit. If you’re using more a nic salt with lower mg levels like 10mg, the best coils are around 1.0ohm and 1.2ohms, resulting in more vapour and not so much of a nicotine rush.

The best thing about vaping is that you can pretty much make it your own. The first step is to figure out what you want from your vaping experience and base your choices around that. We have extensive guides or a team of vapers who are more than happy to help.
